Een praktische uitleg van de Nederlandse Geloofsbelijdenis

In de nacht van 1 op 2 november 1561 gooit iemand een met een steen verzwaard pakketje over de muur van een kasteel bij Doornik; een stadje in het zuiden van België, vlak bij de Franse grens. De volgende morgen wordt het pakketje gevonden en opengemaakt. Er blijkt een boekje in te zitten: de Nederlandse Geloofsbelijdenis. Mét een persoonlijke brief van de schrijver, bestemd voor een belangrijke gast die juist díé nacht in het kasteel logeert: koning Filips II. Om uit te leggen wat de protestanten geloven.

Dit boekje staat al eeuwenlang achter in ons psalmboek. De inhoud ervan is vandaag nog even actueel als in de 16e eeuw, toen het geschreven werd. Het geeft de bijbelse geloofsleer helder en kernachtig samenvattend weer. Om ons te leren wat het zeggen wil: wij geloven en belijden.
