Flavius Julius Constans was born around 320 to Fausta and Constantine I. He
became Caesar in 333, and when the empire was divided after Constantine .

In 340, Constantine II invaded Constans’ territory and was killed, so Constans
became sole ruler in the west. He successfully fought the barbarians for the
next ten years, but in 350 heard about the revolt of Magnentius and headed for
Augustodunum. Constans fled to Spain, but was murdered in the Pyrenees at the
fortress of Helene.Flavius Julius Constans or as he was simply known, Constans,
was a Roman emperor who enjoyed quite a lengthy reign from the year 337 AD to
the year 350 AD. He was born sometime in the year 320 AD (the exact date of his
birth is unknown to this day) as the third and youngest son of the then Roman
emperor Constantine I and his wife Fausta. Fausta was the second wife of
Constantine I.

From the year 337 AD, Constans actually shared the rule over the entire Roman
Empire equally with his two brothers, Constantius II and Constantine II. The
relationship between the brothers was not all that amicable although it started
that way. Constans and Constantine II in particular were given to violent
confrontations.

Constantine II sought to take advantage of his younger brother's youth and
relative inexperience in handling matters of the state, a treatment that
eventually led to open warfare. Constantine II set forth to invade Italy in the
year 340 AD but his younger surprised him with an astounding command over his
armed forces. Their conflict led them to a battle in Aquileia where against all
expectations, the younger brother along with his armed forces prevailed over the
elder brother and Constantine II subsequently died from wounds that he received
during the said battle.

The years from 341 AD to 342 AD found Constans engaged in yet another military
campaign this time against the Franks. According to numerous reports from that
period, this campaign was hugely successful and contributed further to his
reputation as a formidable military leader.

While it was mentioned in the works of the writer Julius Firmicus Maternus that
Constans visited Britain in the very early part of the year 343 AD, the writer
did not go into detail about the Roman emperor's reasons for doing so. This
visit to Britain has been recorded in various historical accounts as the last
known visit of a Roman emperor to the country.

While the reason's for this journey has remained a mystery until this present
time, some theories have been put forth regarding the reasons behind this
journey. Some claim that it was a trip born out of the necessity of quashing a
rebellion of some kind. Still other reports have suggested that it was in direct
retaliation against the military advances of the Picts and the Scots.

In any case, it was known that he traversed the treacherous English Channel at a
time when such a trip was particularly hazardous; during the bitter cold winter
months. That he chose to undertake such a journey at a particularly dangerous
time-along with the blinding speed in which he undertook the operation-suggests
that it was a matter of extreme urgency, which bolstered that the theory that
the journey was taken in response to a particularly pressing military emergency.

The year 350 AD brought a further conflict to Constans' immediate attention. The
general Magnentius proclaimed himself the new rightful emperor and in a battle
between the two factions, Constans was cornered and killed. He died in the year
350 AD.

Good info that helps
Format: Paperback
This had info that helped our AD lockouts issues or at least ease the pain while our vendor figures it out. A powershell command that unlocks all AD users instead of having to unlock each one. In the troubleshooting section

More than just the most comprehensive book on AD
Format: Paperback
I have been working with Active Directory since it was released in 2000 and even before that if you count its predecessor Exchange's directory. I can confidently say that this is the most comprehensive book on Active Directory that I have ever read. Of course there are all of the basics like designing AD structures, migrations to AD 2022, management of objects and group policies but then all of the AD services are also covered in-depth like DNS, DS, LDS, FS, RMS and CS. Furthermore this book tackles trusts, database maintenance and backup and recovery. While not a book about Azure AD, there is a ton of information about Azure AD. The author takes the time and effort to compare AD with Azure AD and there are hundreds of references to Azure AD in terms of building out hybrid AD environments, federated identity and notes about how things are done in Azure AD versus AD. The chapter on PowerShell demonstrates scripts for both AD and Azure AD. Here is what I think makes this book special though, and it is how the entire context for the book is around security, identity and access management. Essentially this book can be viewed as a book on security, identity and access management that demonstrates how to practically implement those concepts in Active Directory and Azure AD. There is fantastic information that explains the concepts of identity and access management clearly and concisely and covers topics such as zero trust, privileged access management (PAM) and more. Then, these concepts are translated into how they are implemented in Active Directory. It's a great way to present the information as it provides real world context and clearly explains the purpose of Active Directory versus purely just describing technical features and functionality. This is the way all technical books should be written.

A great read for those who want in depth knowledge about MS Active Directory & related services
Format: Paperback
Reviewer: 20 yrs training and consulting experience with Windows Server, Exchange Server, Active Directory, all major hypervisors, and cloud services. Active Directory along with all the related services and features are complex and many faceted topics. Books showing step by step examples are easy to come by, although not very useful since there’s plenty of Microsoft online help with the same info. What’s more important is to understand the features and related services and how to use them properly and securely. This book covers in great detail Active Directory and the related services and features. There’s also plenty of information and expertise from a security perspective. With the move to cloud services and more employees are working from home there’s a whole new level of security issues to contend with. This book contains lots of in-depth explanations that allow you to understand why certain features and services exist and how to use them. This extra depth and the author’s experience is what makes this book special. I would recommend this book for IT Professionals that already have some AD knowledge and experience. My only qualification is that I occasionally found some of the explanations confusing even after reading them over a several times. I would highly recommend this book for those who wish to understand, configure and design an AD infrastructure along with associated services including OU design, group policy, object management delegation, ADFS, Certificate Services, etc. Although the book is not about Azure AD it does cover some aspects including integrating with on-prem AD.

Detailed coverage of Active Directory
Format: Kindle
I spent several years very close to active directory but haven’t followed developments in recent years. I was interested in this book as a refresher on what’s new in the last 8-10 years – and it did not disappoint. The chapter on Advanced AD Management with PowerShell does a great job providing some background, setting the stage for why we’d want to know this, and providing some brief descriptions of various cmdlets that might be needed. My last experience with PowerShell/Active Directory required the Quest module, so seeing these native cmdlets is a nice change. The chapter on AD FS is very detailed, providing a history of the functionality, deployment topologies and considerations, as well as details on configuring the required components. This is a topic I was not familiar with before seeing this book, and it did a good job bringing me up to speed on the feature. I have not made it all the way through this book, but the sections I have completed are very good. If you are looking for a thorough reference guide on the current state of Active Directory, you should check out this book.
