The mortise button works as it should. The black bakelite checkered grip plates are very good and show only light wear. The black leather buffer is in place under the crossguard. The scabbard shows light wear but retains 85% of its black finish. The blade on this example is very good, and is marked just under the crossguard for Hermann Schellhorn Offenbach a. M. This is the address marking used by Hermann Schellhorn, Feuerwehr-Geräte und Ausrüstungen (Firefighting equipment and devices) of Offenbach am Main. According to J. Anthony Carter's book, GERMAN KNIFE AND SWORD MAKERS, this firm "was an important supplier of uniforms, helmets, caps, insignia, swords, and sidearms to the fire service and the RLB." In particular, this company's catalog shows fire service bayonets in two lengths, indicating that the longer length was for regular, while the shorter length was for Fire Chiefs and leaders. This bayonet comes with a textured black leather frog that is in very good condition, as well as a correctly tied fireman’s bayonet knot. The knot is a beautiful black with silver flat wire, and the acorn is matte silver bullion with red. The eye of the acorn is the fireman’s hot pink color. The troddel is in very good condition, as is the bayonet itself.  A desirable example!
