Description

Iittala Kastehelmi Storage Jar CollectionKastehelmi (dewdrop in Finnish) draws inspiration from dewdrops glistening like a string of pearls under the morning sun and refers to the circles of delicate bubbles in the pressed glass that give each piece in the collection its distinct character. Originally designed by Oiva Toikka in 1964, the Kastehelmi series was relaunched in 2010. Toikka came up with the idea to use droplets of glass as decoration when trying to find a way to hide joint marks

Kastehelmi (“dewdrop” in Finnish) draws inspiration from dewdrops glistening like a string of pearls under the morning sun and refers to the circles of delicate bubbles in the pressed glass that give each piece in the collection its distinct character.

Originally designed by Oiva Toikka in 1964, the Kastehelmi series was relaunched in 2010. Toikka came up with the idea to use droplets of glass as decoration when trying to find a way to hide joint marks left in the production process. The result was a unique design that features rings of tiny glass bubbles that extend outwards from the center of each piece. The droplet enhanced the optical quality of Iittala’s glass recipe resulting in a glass that is like no other. For over fifty years, Kastehelmi has been a beloved Iittala series.

    Now what?
    Format: Hardcover
I am a student (not scholar) of WW II history mostly because of the many men and women in my family who served in this war. Holland and Murray bring a new experience to WW II reporting. We know that surrenders happened, and when and where. But this book gives the reader the "then what happened" ? and named individuals and told of their experiences while they struggled to figure out "what next?". They are lucky to be alive but confused as if they were experiencing an altogether new "battle" asking What shall we do? where shall we go, where will we be safe, how do we live now? This is a fascinating view of the joy and the terror and the miracle of having survived.

    Format: Kindle
Enjoyed reading the detailed accounts of all the participants bringing the end of conflicts. Unconditional surrender was the guiding principle of the Allied forces.
