A Portrait of Pacifists: Le Chambon, the Holocaust and the Lives of Andre and Magda TrocmeThis biography tells the story of Andr and Magda Trocm , two individuals who made nonviolence a way of life. During World War II, the southern French town of Le Chambon sur Lignon and its surrounding villages became a center where Jews and others in flight from Nazi roundups could be hidden or led abroad, and where children with parents in concentration camps could be nurtured and educated. This biography tells the story of Andr and Magda Trocm , two individuals who made nonviolence a way of life. During World War II, the southern French town of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon and its surrounding villages became a center where Jews and others in flight from Nazi roundups could be hidden or led abroad, and where children with parents in concentration camps could be nurtured and educated. The Trocm s' courage during World War II has been well documented in books and film, yet the full arc of their lives--the impulse that led them to devote themselves to nonviolence and their extensive work in the decades following the war--has never been compiled into a full-length biography.

Based on the Trocm s' unpublished memoirs, interviews, and the author's research, the book details the couple's role in the history of pacifism before, during, and after the war. Unsworth traces their mission of building peace by nonviolence throughout Europe to Morocco, Algeria, Japan, Vietnam, and the United States. Analyzing the political and religious complexities of the pacifist movement, the author underscores the Trocm s' deeply personal commitment. Regardless of which nation was condoning violence, shaping international relations, or pressing for peace, and regardless of whose theology dominated the pulpits, both Andr and Magda remained driven by conscience to make nonviolence the hallmark of their life's work.

Cute
Color: A White, Color: A White
It's super cute and goes well with the decor in my room. Comes with a leather bottom and easy to put together. Only problem is that's is a easy to fall apart as well. If one side is heavier then the other it will be lopsided. Holds necklaces okay... if you have heavy charms on them they will fall off.

Disappointing
Color: A White
The plastic was a little cheaper than I thought it would be, and the whole thing was a little smaller than I was picturing, you aren't able to rest necklaces on it because it's too short. Unfortunately I got it as a gift for someone else so I can't speak to its longevity but it was a bit disappointing.

Adorable!
Color: A White, Color: A White
I'm not sure what I saw in Mt mind's eye when I ordered this, but this was not it. HOWEVER, this little deer can't be more than 3.5 inches long and with it's over exaggerated antlers it actually makes the CUTEST little jewelry tree. As you can see I put studs thru the holes where the pairs are in symmetrical spots, but as my daughter said "it's kind of awkward that they aren't closer" But the studs I'll keep in place will be my least used, so it shouldn't be an issue. This little tree is made of very lightweight plastic which snapped together easily, but a big part of me hopes to someday find one a bit larger, made of ceramic. As my daughter said "it's by far the most creative one I've ever seen"
