Libec ZC-8 Compact Zoom Remote Control: Precision Command for 8-Pin Canon & Fujinon Servo Lenses

In professional broadcast television, electronic news gathering (ENG), outside sports broadcasting, and studio production, control over framing must be continuous and steady. Reaching up to manually turn a camera’s lens ring mid-shot introduces physical vibrations and breaks an operator's concentration.

The Libec ZC-8 is a broadcast-grade, ultra-compact zoom remote control designed specifically to mount directly onto your tripod head’s pan bar or handle. Interfacing via an industry-standard 8-pin connector protocol, this tactical control unit provides operators with fluid, precise, variable-speed command over professional Canon and Fujinon servo-driven zoom lenses.

1. Universal 8-Pin Servo Cross-Compatibility

Broadcast equipment environments utilize different lens standards. The ZC-8 is engineered to smoothly step into this workflow with an integrated 8-pin circular plug connection. It features dedicated internal signal translation circuitry that makes it fully compatible with both major professional lens formats:

  • Fujinon ENG / Studio Servo Lenses (8-Pin communication ports)

  • Canon ENG / Studio Servo Lenses (8-Pin communication ports)

2. Variable-Speed Fluid Zoom Rocker Switch

The core functionality of the ZC-8 relies on its responsive rocker switch design.

  • Proportional Control Mechanics: Rather than offering a rigid, single-speed zoom, the rocker switch measures the physical pressure applied by the operator's thumb. A light touch produces a creeping, slow television zoom for emotional framing, while pressing the rocker fully drives a rapid focal transition to track sudden sporting action.

  • Directional Reverse Switch: The housing integrates a tactile physical toggle that allows operators to instantly reverse the directional parameters of the rocker (flipping wide-angle and telephoto tilt orientations) to suit individual user preferences.

3. Remote Record (REC) Start/Stop & Return (RET) Functions

To streamline solo operator workflows, the ZC-8 serves as a central control hub, placing vital broadcast parameters directly under your thumb:

  • REC Start/Stop Control: Features a dedicated, tactile record button that communicates natively with the camera body via the lens servo, allowing you to trigger recording without reaching for the camera chassis.

  • Return Video (RET) Mode: Pressing the return function permits the camera operator to view the return video feed from the switcher/control room directly through the viewfinder, ensuring precise timing on live multi-camera broadcasts.

4. Heavy-Duty Universal Tripod Clamp

Designed to integrate into existing grip setups without requiring specialized modifications, the ZC-8 features a robust mechanical screw-clamp array:

  • Wide Clamping Diameter Threshold: Securely fastens to any tubular surface ranging from 9.91 mm to 44.96 mm (0.39" to 1.77").

  • Multi-Platform Deployment: While optimized to clamp rigidly onto standard tripod fluid head pan handles, its versatile grip footprint means it can be safely locked onto crane weight bars, camera jib arms, jib control frames, stabilizer handles, and field monopods.

5. Rugged, Light-Weight All-Weather Build

  • Ultra-Compact Profile: Measuring just 6.9 x 5.1 cm (2.7" x 2.0") and weighing a mere 0.17 kg (0.37 lbs), it adds negligible mass to your pan bar, preserving the native counter-balance properties of your fluid head.

  • All-Weather Resilience: Sealed to protect against the rigors of field reporting, the internal electronics function seamlessly within a wide operating environment threshold of -10°C to +40°C (14°F to 104°F).

  • Optimal Cable Length: Outfitted with a heavy-duty, highly insulated 0.7-meter (2.3 feet) cable, providing plenty of length to route cleanly along your pan handle without causing loose cable snags.

Key Technical Specifications:

  • Model Designation: Libec ZC-8 Compact Zoom Remote Control

THIS IS A MUST-BUY! If you have a dog--you NEED this ball!
Color: Orange
We have two 18-month-old chocolate Labs (brothers—basically twins with paws). The best time to walk them is early morning or just before dark… which is exactly how we managed to lose approximately 9,472 tennis balls in our cornfield. RIP, brave yellow soldiers. So I went searching for a ball that didn’t just glow—I wanted one that full-on lights up like a tiny dog disco. Enter this LED ball. Game. Changer. Our walks are now way more fun. The ball bounces, flashes, and changes colors like it’s auditioning for a rave. People literally slow their cars as they drive past our field just to watch the light show. I’m not saying we’re local celebrities now… but I’m not not saying that either. And here’s the real magic: when the boys get distracted and abandon the ball (because squirrel), it stays lit so I can actually find it. We also bought a ball launcher from Walmart for about $9, and the LED ball fits perfectly—same size as a tennis ball, just 100x cooler. This ball is waterproof and mostly floats, although I haven’t been brave enough to throw it into the pond or river because I’m positive my dogs would treat that as a full-scale navy search mission and never find it again. It’s easy to charge, and even with 2–3 hours of walking daily, I only have to plug it in every few weeks. We’ve had it for months now and it’s still going strong—super durable. We don’t let them chew on it off-walk (because Labs), but during fetch? It’s a champ. Also—small but hilarious detail—when they catch it, their mouths light up. I have accidentally created glow-in-the-dark dogs. I love this ball so much I’m buying a backup because life without it is not an option. Best dog toy EVER. Whoever invented this deserves a medal, a parade, and a lifelong supply of tennis balls they’ll never lose again. 🐾💡

DISAPPOINTED
Color: Blue
only lasted 3 months after about a dozen uses. The LED core fell out and now it's totally useless. Not worth the cost at all. Disappointed because my dogs really loved them.

Dog is obsessed with this.
The spa works as intended it lights up at night, which is super helpful for short winter days and for when the snow starts to pile up, it illuminates the snow pile that dog dropped it in so I can find it. I haven’t actually charged it yet. It came fully charged and has been in use for over a week without needing a recharge. We only use it on outside excursions together. I keep it in my pocket on walks in case he needs something in his mouth or an incentive to run a little off leash. I like that there are two settings to the light which I didn’t notice when I ordered it. One will shut off after five minutes of inactivity to save battery, which is really convenient so I don’t have to keep on screwing it to turn it on and off or there’s a second setting where the light stays on until you manually turn it off. We have it on the battery saving mode and we have never lost it. Overall, a really fun toy that even the neighbors, tiny dog who can barely pick it up and enjoys. It’s not really soft for like chewing, but that also means he’s not going to destroy it. It is a heavy ball to throw, but not too bad. One of my favorite purchases for this puppy.
