.For two centuries Australia has been stretching many native European varieties over warm and dramatic climates. The use of irrigation has forced them to perform beyond their abilities with wine quality being barely adequate. This was fuelled by marketing and salespersons budget needs to secure the fragile and shaky path of least resistance. Lazy, quite frankly.
The real engine room of Australian wine, small and medium winemakers have always had to diversify with new (and old) varieties to get their snout in the trough. We do Semillon as an old one but believe in Touriga and Barbera, in forging a business around what works and what fits our region. Non-Vegan, words over, we needed another white wine to secure our white stable. Sorry Vegans there I go again.
We thought a bit and decided to attempt Fiano and our friend David Cook had some. We are into working with the less tried cepage but in this case there are some excellent examples with15-20 years of experience to help guide us.
Its heritage is southern Italy, hot, dry arid and it has been proven in McLaren Vale in particular. Our 2025 comes from Barossa North (Clare really). It holds acid, ripens late and revels in a heat wave, which we must contend with annually now. More importantly, it has an array of flavours that are familiar to me and the winemaking is always fundamental with great quality fruit. Many new varieties have been explored in the last 15 years, and Fiano is proving its ability to grow strong, produce excellent wines over numerous districts.
I reckon its quite exciting.
Its weight and complexity make it a fabulous food wine (as the Italian varieties do). So pair with robust poultry dishes, seafood and of course pasta.

Colour
Brilliant and sparkling. Like crown jewel

Nose
Nectarine and white peach. Genuinely floral. Lovely, cleaned bees wax overlay. Steel cut oats and burger muesli. Excellent purity.

Palate
Fiano offers a range of flavours that respond the natural salinity of south Australian wine. In this Fiano, lime cordial, lemon pith and really rind loaded marmalade come to mind.
It has really nice shape and texture over the tongue

Big Yet Mighty!
Format: Imitation Leather
I bought this one to give to a friend who is finally turning to Jesus! I already had a MacArthur ESV study Bible as it was recommended to me by my pastor. This Bible has in-depth introductions to every chapter and a many pages there’s more commentary than there is text of the Bible. This is a great tool to help you study the word of God and to give you better understanding it might not be the Bible you want to carry to church on Sunday because it is large and heavy.

Amazing detail and story
Format: Hardcover
We visited Chartwell in June 2023. I sure wish I had read this book prior to that visit. I was still able to scroll through my photographs and compare them with the book photos or comments. All in all the book is excellent. It manages to complete the story of Churchill in Exile and give the reader a glimpse of all the work he accomplished leading up to WWII. It also begs the question if given a leadership role earlier Churchill could have prevented the war in the first place. As someone who lost his uncle over France in 1943 that would have been nice. I highly recommend this book. A great man.

10/10 recommend
Format: Hardcover
Great book, especially if you're a fan on WWII or Winston Churchill! I never really dove into Churchill specifically before this book, but I was very impressed with how much influence he had leading up to the war, even when he wasn't a political official. It's also wild to think about how different things could have been if people took his warnings sooner. Overall I love the book and I think it's a very interesting read even if you're not that into history!
