Armed with four 20mm and two 30mm cannon in forward-firing and upward-firing Schräge Musik installations, and equipped with AI radar, the He 219 was devastatingly effective against RAF bombers. On its first operational mission in June 1943 it shot down five Lancasters including several from the famous Pathfinder Force.
