The Blackmagic Design Spares – ATEM Panel – System Control Module is the "brain" and primary interface hub located in the upper right-hand section of the ATEM 1 M/E, 2 M/E, and 4 M/E Advanced Panels.

This module is a combined hardware assembly that typically includes the high-resolution System Control LCD, the surrounding menu buttons, and the rotary encoder circuitry. It is the central point for configuring every aspect of the switcher that isn't handled by the software, from network settings to complex DVE keying and Fairlight audio parameters.

Core Responsibilities

  • Visual Interface: Renders the master menu system on the 5-inch (approx.) color LCD screen.

  • Navigation Logic: Interprets the input from the four rotary knobs and the "Menu," "Set," and "Back" buttons.

  • Real-time Status: Displays critical system health data, including internal temperatures, power supply status, and connection health to the ATEM mainframe.

  • Parameter Adjustment: Acts as the display for granular adjustments like Chroma Key "Lift/Gain," DVE "X/Y/Z" coordinates, and Audio "EQ/Dynamics."

When to Replace the System Control Module

  • Total Screen Blackout: The buttons around the screen light up, but the LCD itself is completely black or shows only a white backlight (the "White Screen of Death").

  • Menu "Freeze": The panel connects to the switcher and the M/E rows work, but the System Control screen is frozen and does not update when knobs are turned.

  • Corrupt Graphics: The UI shows "glitched" icons, missing text, or "static" patterns, indicating a failure of the module's dedicated graphics buffer.

  • Button/Knob Bank Failure: A scenario where the screen works, but the entire row of soft-touch buttons or all four rotary knobs become unresponsive simultaneously.

Technical Installation Note

Repair Level: 4 (Advanced).

  1. High-Density Connectivity: This module is connected to the Panel's Main Distribution Board via one or more high-density Flexible Flat Cables (FFC). These carry high-speed video data to the LCD; even a microscopic speck of dust on the gold pins can cause screen flickering.

  2. Modular Alignment: The module must be perfectly centered within the aluminum faceplate. If installed slightly "off," the rotary knobs will rub against the chassis, making them feel heavy or scratchy.

  3. Heat Dissipation: Because this module houses a high-brightness LCD and a dedicated processor, it generates heat. Ensure the internal thermal pads are positioned correctly to transfer heat to the panel's metal frame.

  4. Firmware Handshake: Upon first boot after replacement, the panel may require a USB connection to a computer running the ATEM Setup Utility to ensure the module's firmware version matches the rest of the panel's hardware.

Diagnostic: System Control Module vs. Main PCB

  • It is the System Control Module if: The rest of the panel (T-Bar, Joystick, and M/E Buttons) is functioning perfectly and tallies are updating, but the top-right screen and its local controls are dead.

  • It is the Main PCB if: The entire panel is unresponsive, or if the System Control screen shows a "Kernel Panic" or "No Communication" error despite a confirmed network connection to the switcher.

Pro-Tip: The "Reset" Trick

Before replacing this expensive module, try a Hard Reset. Hold the top-left button of the System Control section while powering on the panel. This forces the panel into "Recovery Mode." If the screen lights up and displays "Update Firmware" in this mode, your hardware is likely healthy, and you simply have a corrupted software state.

Is your screen completely dark, or is it showing an error message like "Searching for Switcher"?

Great for shed organizing
Size: 4.5", Style: Open, Size: 4.5", Style: Open
We recently upgraded to a conex/shipping container/metal shed and needed a way to organize all of our yard tools. These work great, the weight holds a lot of items, could be a little longer but we were impressed with them holding everything for over a month now and not moving.

Good product. Know the limits.
Size: 6 Inch, Style: Open
These are very nice. Sure beats drilling holes in your steel. However, 45lb is a stretch. Will easily hold 25lbs. However 35+ is a stretch, especially if your walls shift a little due to be close to a door. Will definitely order more, just important to understand the limits. Thanks.

Finally, a product that meets all of its advertised claims!
It seems to me like this product is always out of stock. Of the ones I have received and been able to use. They work as advertised and hold an incredible amount of weight. It is very easy to put them on and off, but once they are latched down, you could not remove them by hand without bending the hooks I would like to have a few more boxes to use in my steel building.

Magnet hooks you need!
Size: 4.5", Style: Open
I have been using these all over our shop and helps keep chords, tools and other items off the floor and more organized. I like the ease of the magnet, and it looks like. Built to last. I wish they were not so expensive.
