Steve the Chaffinch is a perky, cheeky fellow and at 18cm long he’s just the right size to hop in your hand for a bit of a squeeze. Would you like to knit him? It's easy – you'll find everything that you need to knit a cuddly chaffinch inside this fun bird knit kit! 

Each bird knitting kit is carefully handmade and packed by me, and will contain all the yarn and notions that you need to knit a cute chaffinch  – No need to order all the different yarns and bits and pieces – you can sit back, relax, and start knitting straight away. It's all there for you!

You’ll need a pair of 4mm knitting needles, and a yarn darning needle to make Steve. If you'd like to add these to your kit, each pair of 25cm long high quality Pony aluminium knitting needles are £2.50, and a pack of 2 Pony darning needles are £1.50.

Is Steve suitable for beginners?

Yes. He is simply knitted flat, on 4mm knitting needles, making him a good project for a beginner who knows the basics of knitting: no need to knit in the round. 

Basic knitting skills that you’ll need to know:

Stocking stitch, increasing by knitting into the front and back of a stitch (inc 1) and decreasing by knitting 2 stitches together (k2tog). There’s colour-changing on some rows, so you will need to use Intarsia technique to change yarns mid-row. Head on over to my how to knit tutorials if you need any advice!

Steve the Chaffinch is 18cm tall. Please note that he has a pipe cleaner as support for his tail, making him unsuitable for children.
